January 5 · An Invitation to Sit
Brother,
Think back to arriving somewhere everyone else seemed to know the routine. Even choosing a seat can take effort when you cannot tell which customs matter.
A Brother who points out an available chair and explains the next part of the evening gives a newcomer some room to relax. The welcome begins with practical help, often before either man has much to say.
At your next meeting, notice what a visitor would have to guess. Perhaps the entrance is hard to find, conversation is difficult to hear, or nobody has explained where everyone gathers afterward. A little guidance can make participation easier.
A question for today: What could I explain or offer that would help someone feel at home?

Plain answers.
Is it really free?
Yes. No card, no trial, no catch. The book exists if you want it; the emails don't depend on it.
How long does it last?
As long as you like. The readings follow the calendar and come round again each year. A good many of them read differently the second time.
What if I miss a day?
Nothing. Read it when you get to it, or don't. There is no streak to keep up, and the day comes back next year.
How do I stop?
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and it's done.
Is this the same as Square Thoughts?
No. Square Thoughts is my essay publication on Substack, with its own subscription. This is a daily reading series from Brotherhood of Purpose. You can have one, both or neither.
