FOUR REAL PAGES FROM THE CURRENT WORKBOOK
Check Lodge Dues
Start with one checked number. See a filled discussion summary before the blank, plus an agenda for a working meeting.
These previews come from the 69-page revised workbook. Cedar Lodge and its figures are fictional. A calculation is not authority to change a bill. The PDF fields accept entries; they do not calculate. Use the complete starter below for a first practice with all instructions together.

Brotherhood of Purpose · Practical Guides Robert W. Linn, PM | Bosley Press | DU25 3 Start Here • Check one number A confident number may rest on missing facts. Start with one check you can explain. Allow ten minutes for this practice; take longer or return later. What you leave with One checked balance and one request for evidence. You need a pencil and an ordinary calculator. You do not need to lead a committee. Cedar • made-up figures COST $30,000; OTHER $6,000; BILLS 60; COLLECT 95%. $30,000 − $6,000 = $24,000 to fund. 60 × .95 = 57 full-payment equivalents, not 57 men. $24,000 ÷ 57 = $421.05 displayed. At PROPOSED $425: $425 × 57 + $6,000 − $30,000 = +$225. Try one check Cover the last answer. Check $425 backward yourself. Then try $400; that leaves −$1,200. The full explanation is on pages 8 and 28. One real request “Could we check the rent agreement: amount, included costs and start date?” Record: current rent agreement. Proposed checker: Secretary, still to ask. Return date: agree when he accepts. If rent does not apply, choose another cost. On your own: write your request. With a brother: explain the check to each other. Leading a class: use the twenty-minute agenda on page 62. One check and one request are enough. Ask the allowed record holder; do not assign work without acceptance. This practice authorizes no bill or rule change.

Brotherhood of Purpose · Practical Guides Robert W. Linn, PM | Bosley Press | DU25 41 A discussion summary filled in Made-up Cedar draft for W7, W8A, and W8B. This is a model of an honest incomplete proposal. It is not permission to send a bill. W7 • six fields 1. Next planning year. Start date unverified. Owen prepares; Luis checks. 2. COST $30,000; OTHER $6,000; GAP $24,000. 3. BILLS 60; COLLECT 95%; EXPECTED 57. 4. RATE $421.05 displayed. PROPOSED $425 gives BALANCE +$225. 5. Learning gatherings; group 2 plan. Sources W1–W6; lease and worker checks remain open. 6. DRAFT: next step is evidence review, not billing. W8A • four fields 1. Six gatherings or three; no final choice. Plan A lacks twelve willing hours; Plan B has eighteen accepted hours. 2. January −$1,000. Moving $2,000 from February may fix it; no timing proof or bridge approved. Source, limit and end date remain unverified. 3. Private relief route still to check. Six assumed full waivers reduce bills; keep individual circumstances out. 4. Plan B: Owen, Ana and Luis each accept six hours. No backup promised; shrink again if a host withdraws. Drop three gatherings. W8B • four fields 1. Base RATE $421.05; BALANCE +$225. At 90% collection: EXPECTED 54; RATE $444.44; BALANCE −$1,050 at $425. 2. Combined: COST $33,000; OTHER $4,500; BILLS 50; COLLECT 90%; EXPECTED 45. RATE $633.33; BALANCE −$9,375 at $425. Reprice or reduce before recommending. 3. Largest unknown: support for 95% collection. Luis agrees to check receipts by November 2; recalculate if unsupported. 4. No approved adjustment rule or start date. Local approvals unverified; G2 in Finance / Dues / Cedar-draft. Read these examples before filling the next three forms. A practice draft may have open tasks; a real proposal must say what decisions still wait.

Brotherhood of Purpose · Practical Guides Robert W. Linn, PM | Bosley Press | DU25 42 W7 • Figures for the discussion Use the example on page 41. This is a shared draft, not a bill. Fill W8A and W8B too. BALANCE = PROPOSED × EXPECTED + OTHER − COST. Use an extra sheet if needed; repeat this form code and field label. Save a copy after typing. Lodge and year. Proposed start date. Preparer and checker. COST from W1. OTHER from W3. Subtract to find GAP, at least zero. BILLS and COLLECT%. EXPECTED = BILLS × COLLECT ÷ 100. RATE = GAP ÷ positive EXPECTED. Try PROPOSED. Find BALANCE. Purpose and chosen plan. Key estimates or unknowns. Sources. Mark DRAFT or ready for the verified next step. What happens when? If EXPECTED is zero, do not divide. Resolve the funding basis and local obligations before claiming a rate.

Brotherhood of Purpose · Practical Guides Robert W. Linn, PM | Bosley Press | DU25 65 A forty-five-minute dues working meeting Arrange an approved forty-five-minute slot or a separate working meeting. Send P1, W7, W8A/B, the Rule check (page 47), and a short evidence summary first. Invite those who can explain property, cash, and rules. Confirm whether this is discussion, a recommendation, or an allowed decision. This agenda grants no authority. 0–5 • Chair: “Our purpose today is [stage]. The verified next procedural step is [step].” Recorder notes that stage. If authority is uncertain, keep this a discussion. 5–12 • Investigator presents purpose and obligations. Show the property-to-lodge trail and the experience being funded. If a cost is disputed, record its ID and evidence task. 12–22 • Checker traces W7: COST, OTHER, BILLS, COLLECT, EXPECTED, RATE and BALANCE. Correct arithmetic before discussing the preferred rate. 22–32 • Compare choices and W8. Could the plan be smaller? Is a move feasible? Is a phase-in funded? Check cash dates, the private relief route, willing helpers, and a harder year. Ask: “What could make this fail?” 32–40 • Record unresolved evidence and procedural steps. Ask willing people to accept each task and date. Use G1 for an adjustment-rule proposal; keep approval requirements explicit. 40–45 • Read back decisions and actions. SAY: “The proposal funds [purpose]. Before [next decision], [person] will verify [item]. We will share corrected figures by [date].” Save the reasons with G2; preserve exact approved wording separately. If discussion runs long, carry unresolved items forward. Do not turn missing evidence or an unverified procedure into approval merely to finish on time.
